Speech Pathology Australia (the Association) is a membership organisation that draws its strength from its members. As the national peak body for the speech pathology profession in Australia, the Association has several categories of membership.
The Association provides support for speech pathology students and recent graduates in the early stages of their career. This and related pages contain resources specifically for speech pathology students. Students enrolled in a speech pathology course recognised by Speech Pathology Australia are eligible for this category of membership. Join as a student member (online form).
Free* membership for students in their first year of study
The Association offers all first year speech pathology students studying the Bachelors or Masters free* membership in their first year of study. Students in their first year of study are offered complimentary membership but must upload a letter of offer as evidence to support this as part of the online application process.
Free membership is open to any speech pathology student undertaking an undergraduate or postgraduate speech pathology course for the very first time. The member benefits are numerous.

Student member
The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June and is renewed annually for $66 and you can join at any time but the longer you are a member, the more benefits you will receive (especially when you graduate and apply for Certified Practising membership)
Graduating Student members are entitled to apply to upgrade to Certified Practising membership (with provisional CPSP), at a reduced rate, provided they have held continuous membership for a minimum of three months, prior to applying for Certified Practising membership. For those opting to pay by direct debit, any outstanding student membership fees must be paid prior to the discount being applicable.
- If you are a student member during the last membership period before you apply for Certified Practising membership, you will receive a 50% discount on your first year as a Certified Practising member (CPSP).
- If you are a student member during the last two membership periods before you apply for Certified Practising membership, you will receive a 75% discount on your first year as a Certified Practising member (CPSP).
Being a continual student member will save you hundreds of dollars when you apply for Certified Practising membership!
