Code of Ethics

alt
It is fundamental to the professional responsibilities of speech pathologists that we observe the highest standards of integrity and ethical principles.

With this in mind, Speech Pathology Australia substantially revised its Code of Ethics in 1999/2000 and established its Ethics Board to manage and, when necessary, enforce the Code. The Code was revised again and launched at the 2010 Annual General Meeting of Speech Pathology Australia

The Code of Ethics contains the standards:

  • which reflect the value base of our profession;
  • which reinforce the principles on which we make ethical decisions;
  • which assist members of our Association to adopt legitimate and professionally acceptable behaviour in their Speech Pathology practice;
  • by which people outside our profession may evaluate us; and
  • which form the basis for the decisions of our Association's Ethics Board.

Members of the public or members of the profession are encouraged to make a complaint if they believe there has been a breach of the Code of Ethics.

Ethics Board Procedures

The Ethics Board has reviewed the Ethics Education Package since the revised Code was launched in 2010. Board members are currently trialling elements of the package with groups that they meet with regularly or teach. We have devised a short 10 minute evaluation survey to gain feedback from participants of ethics education session so that we can make changes to the package. The Board intends that the package will be developed into an online tool on the website and Council has supported this decision.

Please go the link below and complete the evaluation. The Ethics Board appreciates your feedback.
