Briefing Papers

alt

Briefing Papers are developed to summarise relevant data in specific domains of Speech Pathology practice.

They serve as a summary of key data, issues and information sources at a 'point in time', as a ready information source for the preparation of submissions, media releases or reports on a topic or issue.

Briefing papers must be submitted to the relevant National Portfolio Coordinator for approval, and are then submitted to Council for endorsement.

Briefing Papers are made available to members as relevant; it is envisaged that the primary use will be by active members of Speech Pathology Australia for the purposes of conducting Association activities, such as:

  • Supporting documentation for lobby activites;
  • PWG Portfolio State Leaders in assisting members with relevant enquiries;
  • Branch Presidents and National Portfolio Coordinators in preparing submissions;
  • Public Affairs Committees in developing information for the media.

Current briefing papers being utilised in lobbying meetings include:

alt National Inquiry: Mandated universal access to speech pathology services for preschool and school-aged children with speech and language disorders

alt Investigation of the social and economic impact of communication and swallowing disorders on the Australian community and economy

In part, the use of Briefing Papers has been replaced by succinct Issue Statements.  Detailed Briefing Papers will be developed as required.
