Membership Renewal Information

Speech Pathology Australia invites you to renew your membership with the Association for the year 2012. Membership is due on 1 January 2012.
Speech Pathology Australia membership represents a personal commitment to the Profession, its standards and its Code of Ethics.
The majority of members are now eligible to renew their 2012 membership, including PSR NOW online.
Renewals by phone or fax are NOT ACCEPTED.
There are a few exceptions to the online renewal process - renewals that must be processed via National Office and cannot be completed online are:
- Members wishing to take up Direct Debit
- Members wishing to pay by cheque or Money Order.
- Students needing to upgrade their membership.
- Members wishing to apply for the Parental Leave Benefit as all documentation must be returned directly to National Office.

Option One : Direct Debit |

Direct Debit will be available on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis. Please complete the direct debit form on the reverse of your renewal form, or download from http://www.speechpathologyaustralia.org.au/membership/member-application-forms and return to National Office. |

Option Two : ONLINE (Full amount by Credit Card - Visa or MasterCard) |

Go direct to www.speechpathologyaustralia.org.au, from the home page, click ‘update my profile' and follow the prompts ensuring you have your PSR points (if applicable) and your credit card details. You must pay your membership before entering your PSR points. |

Option Three: Mail |

Attach your cheque or money order to your completed signed renewal & PSR Declaration form (if applicable) to National Office. |

Important PSR Participant information |
|
For continuing PSR participants, login into the SPA website and click on 'Update my Profile', login into 'My Account', go to the PSR icon link where you can enter your points for activities undertaken in 2011. Provided that you have met the requirements of the PSR program, you will be posted your Certificate of PSR Recognition that states you are eligible to use the relevant Certified Practising Speech Pathologist title and CPSP post nominals for 2012. |

General Membership Renewal information – membership due on 1 January 2012 |
- Renewals apply to the calendar year (i.e. 1 January – 31 December 2012).
- Renewals are not accepted over the phone, scanned or by fax.
- A late fee of $44 incl. GST ($40 if overseas mailing address) will apply from 1 March, with the exception of Student members.
- The Association has a special fee category for new graduates who were student members during their final or undergraduate years of study in 2011 (eligible members have had their application forms posted directly to them).
- GST applies to membership fees for all members except those with an overseas mailing address.
- If you wish to change your name, you must provide certified evidence.
- The majority of members will be able to renew their 2012 membership online, including updating your practice details and PSR points.
- Mail your signed renewal and payment details direct to National Office by 1 January 2012. An administration fee of $33.00 ($30.00 if overseas mailing address) now applies direct debit payments. The following conditions apply if you decide to pay your membership fees by direct debit:
- Payment must be by bank account. If you change your bank account you must contact the Association with the new details prior to your next deduction.
- If you renew after January your first instalment will be backdated to 1 January, and if renewing after February the late fee of $44 (incl. GST) will be deducted in your first instalment.
- The administration fee will be spread across your payment frequency. E.g. if you elect to pay by monthly instalments an amount of $2.75 will be added to your monthly deduction.
- By electing to pay by direct debit you are also opting to have your membership automatically rolled over into the forthcoming year therefore authorising Speech Pathology Australia to continue deducting membership fees until you notify Speech Pathology Australia in writing to cease deductions or your membership.
- Membership certificates will be issued for the full year and their validity will be subject to payment of the remainder of your direct debit instalments.

Update Your Practice Details |
To update and add to these at any time throughout the year, go to: Update My Profile, and follow the steps below:
- To view, edit or delete an existing practice, click View next to the Practice/Facility name.
- To add a new practice, click Insert New Practice.
- If
you have added a new practice and it does not automatically appear in the list,
please refresh your browser page.

Parental Leave Benefit |
The Association is pleased to offer eligible practising members a special member benefit following the birth or adoption of children. Criteria for this member only benefit are listed below. For practising members who are granted this special benefit, the Association offers two years membership for the price of one year. That is, if you had full continuous financial membership for the immediate last 5 years (from 2007), this will cover your Association membership for 2012. (Continuous membership does not include the reduced membership fee from 1 September that SPA offers.)
To be eligible you need to meet all the following criteria:
- Be the primary carer of the child/children.
- Have held continuous full financial membership for the immediate last 5 years – from 2006
- ***Previous SPA approved parental leave will count as long as not granted in 2010 as members cannot have consecutive years of ‘parental leave’ granted***
- Be on unpaid leave from all speech pathology positions for a period of 6 months or more during the previous year (may also include period up to 29 February 2012).
- Complete the ‘Parental Leave Benefit application form’ that is available via the website or from National Office. This will include signing the declaration on the form.
- Follow up Professional Indemnity with Guild directly, with respect to your corresponding parental leave benefit.
- Return by mail your updated and signed renewal notice, together with your PSR Declaration form (if applicable) and the Parental Leave Benefit application form to be posted and received at National Office by 29 February 2012 to be considered.

Membership Categories |
All members of the Association renew their membership under one of these categories:
- Practising Member - Engaged in speech pathology activities as a practitioner, administrator, educator, researcher, or any combination thereof, for which you receive payment. (If you are changing to this category you need to provide evidence of 1000 hours of speech pathology practice in the last 5 years.)

- Non Practising Member - Not engaged in any speech pathology activities for which payment is made during any part of the calendar year.
- Full-time Postgraduate Student Member - Engaged in full-time postgraduate study in a course recognised by the Council, leading to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma, Masters Degree or Doctorate of Philosophy. The degree must be in speech pathology or clearly related to your practice as a speech pathologist (please supply explanation). Please note: if changing to this category, you need to supply evidence of enrolment for 2011. Enrolment in a second undergraduate course does not qualify you for membership in this category.
- Re-entry Member - Members updating their skills by undertaking an approved re-entry program.
- Student Member (Entry Level) - Members who are enrolled in their first degree in speech pathology (whether graduating with a Bachelors or Masters entry-level degree).
- Associate Member - A person holding qualifications in an allied profession who is not eligible for membership as defined in the other membership categories.
- Alumnus Member - Is a person who has practised, but has ceased practising, in speech pathology providing that:
- they are not employed in a capacity that involves the management or education of speech pathologists, or of those in allied health professions (as determined from time to time by the Council);you meet the criteria. (Please contact National Office for further information.
- they have held Ordinary Membership (Practising or Non-practising) of the Association in the past for at least ten years; and
- they are not registered with a Registration Board, pertaining to the practice of speech pathology, required in the state in which they practise.

Tax Invoices |
A tax invoice/receipt will be mailed along with your membership and PSR certificates (if applicable). Duplicate tax invoices cannot be issued in a second name.
