Keynote & Invited Speakers
Keynote Speakers.
Carole Pound
It is with pleasure that I announce, on behalf of the Conference Planning Committee, the first of our Participation 2010 keynote speakers. Carole Pound has enthusiastically accepted our invitation to fulfil this role.
Carole has already commenced work on her contribution to Participation 2010 and will be presenting a key note address, workshop and pre-conference master class.
Carole will be well known to many Australian speech pathologists, as she has previously conducted a national tour and is a well published, highly regarded practitioner.
Through her particular areas of interest and focus, Carole has been a long-time advocate for people living with aphasia and long-term communication impairment. Carole’s pioneering work exemplifies the key message and theme for our conference and we are confident she will inspire and challenge our many delegates.
Carole is co- founder of Connect the communication disability network and until recently worked there as Director of Innovation, leading their pioneering work with people with aphasia. Connect is a UK based voluntary sector organisation which exists to promote effective services, new opportunities and a better quality of life for people living with aphasia and communication disability.
Carole originally trained as a Speech and Language Therapist and has worked in acute and neurorehabilitation settings, and as Director of the Aphasia Clinic at City University, London, prior to setting up Connect in 2000. Throughout her career she has championed the role of people living with aphasia in designing, developing and delivering innovative services, training and resources, such as the recently published Communication Access Toolkit. Carole has co-authored and edited a range of publications for people who live with communication disability and those who provide services with and for them. These include the Stroke and Aphasia Handbook, Aphasia Inside Out, Beyond Aphasia and The Aphasia Therapy Files volumes 1 and 2. Carole was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists in 2006 and won the BUPA Foundation Communication Award in 2008. She is currently carrying out research into communication access and participation in life and leisure at Brunel University.
