OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF speechBITE™
Speech Pathology Australia is very pleased to announce to members the launch of speechBITE™.
speechBITE™ (Speech Pathology Database for Best Interventions and Treatment Efficacy), was officially launched by Professor Mark Onslow in
Sydney on 2nd May, 2008. Sponsored by Speech Pathology Australia, the NSW Motor Accident Authority, Guild Insurance and supported by The University of Sydney, speechBITE™ is a new internet based resource designed to assist speech pathologists in evidence based clinical decision making. speechBITE™ catalogues treatment studies across a range of communication and swallowing disorders, with many of the treatment studies methodologically rated. Included on speechBITE™ are Systematic Reviews, Randomised Controlled Trials, Non-Randomised Controlled Trials, Case Series and Single Case Experimental Designs. speechBITE™ will be a continually expanding database for clinicians, with more treatment studies and ratings added on a regular basis.
As part of the launch, Dr Leanne Togher, the Project Leader, provided the background to and demonstration of speechBITE™. Dr Cori Williams, Speech Pathology
Australia President congratulated the speechBITE™ team and spoke of the importance of the database to the profession. Also in attendance were Kate Smith, speechBITE™ Project Manager, members of the speechBITE™ Advisory Committee,
Gail Mulcair, Speech Pathology Australia CEO, Michael McNally from Guild Insurance, Chris Seidel from the NSW Motor Accident Authority and members of the NSW Branch of Speech Pathology Australia.
