Research Project: Call for Volunteer SPs 

Liza Bergström is an Australian-trained Speech Pathologist who is doing a research project with the Gothenburg University, Sweden. Liza would like to recruit volunteer SPs experienced in dysphagia (and cervical auscultation) management.
Inclusion Criteria: SPs will have a minimum of 2 years experience in dysphagia management, have attended a minimum 1 day workshop for cervical auscultation and currently be using CA
as part of routine dysphagia management on a daily-weekly basis.

Time Frame: The rating is expected to take between 1.5 - 2 hours. Samples will be sent
to participants in mid-January and answers returned in early February.
Exact date to be advised.

Overview:  The Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-based model - DIR (R), a theoretical and applied framework for comprehensive intervention, examines the developmental capacities of children in the context of their unique biologicallly based processing profile, their family relationships and interactive patterns. Floortime (TM) is the tool a the heart of a DIR (R) program and is the process of interacting, following the child's lead, establishing a foundation of shared attention, engagement, simple and complex gestures and problem-solving then to bring the child into the world of ideas and abstract thinkingl Mari and Kathy have been co-facilitating training sessions in Ireland and Australia since 2008.

Asia-Pacific Laryngology & Dysphagia Conference  2012

An excellent group of international speakers from the otolaryngology and speech pathology professions will cover a wide range of issues in the specialties of laryngology and swallowing disorders. You should achieve an in depth understanding of several topics in laryngology, including neurolaryngology, vocal fold paralysis, various laryngeal investigative techniques including stroboscopy, EMG and high speed photography, phonosurgical techniques, reflux and much more. In dysphagia the following, amongst others will be covered comprehensively:  transnasal oesophagoscopy, the neurology of swallowiong, other investigative techniques including videofluroscopy, FEES, and manometry. There will be extensive input and cross fertilization from the field of gastroenterology and neurology. The emphasis will be on the practical issues
of diagnosis, investigation and management of problems.
