Participants will explore the key principles, functions and aims of supervision, understand what is best practice supervision and what is not supervision and build a supervision framework aligned with best practice.

At the end of the workshop should be able to:

• Develop a supervisory agenda.
• Understand the 4 areas of learning goals and build 3 types of learning goals.
• Apply learning styles, learning stages & developmental stages to enhance responsiveness to the supervisee’s learning needs.
• Strengthen their reflective practice and reflective learning skills.
• Build a psychologically safe and values aligned supervisory relationship.
• Empower supervisees to be self-directed learners and drive their own supervision while effectively providing feedback and responding to tricky conversations,
• Apply skills in contracting & reviewing supervision to establish a strong foundation for supervisory relationships.
• Delineate supervision from line management, performance management, EAP and other workplace relationships.
• Foster a supervisory-friendly workplace culture to ensure supervision flourishes.
• Use a broad range of interventions from being a facilitator through to providing content knowledge expertise.

Registrants must be speech pathologists. This workshop is suitable for participants with a range of supervisory experience. 

Michelle Bihary

Michelle is an award-winning mental health occupational therapist with over 40 years' experience as a clinician, leader and supervisor. She specialised in adolescent and youth mental health and is additionally trained in psychotherapy and family therapy.

She has reached over 50,000 health professionals through programs in supervision, leadership development, and workforce wellbeing and her two books: Leading Above the Line and Caring Costs. A recipient of the OT Australia National Award (2010), Michelle is a passionate advocate for sustainable healthcare workforce wellbeing and continues to contribute to conferences, committees and sector-wide conversations.

What should I expect in this LIVE Online session?
LIVE Online events are interactive workshops. Cameras are usually on, and participants are encouraged to take part in activities, discussions, and opportunities to share thoughts and answers throughout the session. You may also be invited to ask verbal questions directly to the presenter. By registering for this event, you are providing consent to be placed into break out rooms, should the presenter wish to incorporate these in their session. Break out rooms are not recorded.

Will there be breaks in the session?
Each presenter determines their own schedule and break times, and these will be communicated at the start of the session. Participants are welcome to turn off their camera and take a break at any time throughout the session, at their own discretion.

Do I need a Zoom account to join?
No – most participants can join directly using the Zoom link provided. Occasionally, Zoom may prompt you to sign in, especially if you’re joining via a browser or mobile device. If that happens, you can create a free Zoom account or sign in to an existing one.

When will I receive the Zoom link for this event?
You’ll receive an email with the Zoom link, password, and workshop timing on the morning of the event. Please check your junk/spam folder if you don’t see it. Please note the time zone of the event within this email. You can also access the link by going to your Learning Centre in the Learning Hub and clicking on the ‘attend’ button.

Will this event be recorded?
No - live online attendance is required. Due to the highly interactive nature of the workshop, a full recording will not be available. Audio recordings will be made available only to participants who attend live and wish to revisit their learning following the workshop.

Will the recording be the same as the live session?
The recording will include audio only. Some interactive elements, such as polls and breakout activities, may not be recorded or may be edited out. In addition, audio from certain videos shown during the presentation (e.g. therapy clips) may also be removed from the final version.

Where can I find the recording?
Recordings are uploaded into the Discussion Forum section in your Learning Centre within 2 business days and remain available for 4 weeks for participants who attended live only.

There may be a short pre-work activity for this event. You will receive an email from the Learning Hub with details prior to the event.
