This is a free event for Members.
Speech Pathology Australia acknowledges the importance of strengthening cultural awareness and responsivity in all clinicians.
To assist members in doing this, as well as meet practice standards for auditing under the NDIS Commission, the Association has organised a free, one day cultural awareness workshop, facilitated by Evolve Communities. The workshop will cover topics such as cultural diversity, communication, cultural baggage and unconscious bias, family and kinship, Sorry business, closing the gap, privilege and cultural competence in the workplace.
Upon successful completion of this educational event, participants will be able to:
Describe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures, why cultural awareness is important and how it impacts daily business;
- Develop skills and self-confidence to better engage with Indigenous peoples, increasing cultural responsiveness and building cultural safety;
- Explore the value of difference and what connects and unites us, to build cultural safety for all;
- Employ strengthened leadership and build staff resilience to support Indigenous initiatives and policies; and
- Identify improved practice in your role as a speech pathologist.
